Monti della Tolfa (Tolfa hills) include coppice woods and grasslands where "maremmana" cows are bred in the wild. The high biodiversity of plants and animals supports a high bird diversity. Among the breeding birds are Fekete gólya, Vörös kánya, Barna kánya, Kígyászölyv, Darázsölyv, Ugartyúk, Lappantyú, Szalakóta, Kalandrapacsirta, szikipacsirta, Erdei pacsirta, Parlagi pityer, Bujkáló poszáta, Tövisszúró gébics, kis őrgébics and Kerti sármány. The area includes some nature reserves (Monterano, Marturanum, Faggeta di Allumiere, Caldara di Manziana), hunting areas and villages.

Access
It's possible to reach the area by car, train (Rome-Civitavecchia and Rome-Viterbo railways) or bus. The villages of Allumiere, Tolfa, Canale Monterano an Barbarano Romano are the best starting points to explore Tolfa hills hiking or mountainbiking. A 10 km circular walk departing from the village of Tolfa is indicated on the map.
