Reservoir with strong seasonal variations of the water level. The shallow wetland and the surrounding mediterranean scrub and holm oaks attract many birds.
Like most of the great Calabrian lakes Lake Tarsia is an artificial reservoir. But unlike most other reservoirs, it has a very unstable water flow. This instability of water level and especially the continuous solid debris coming from the river Crati, have given rise to biological plant structures typical of marshy wetlands, thus making Lake Tarsia a destination for many migratory birds. Remarkable is the presence of some birds of prey such as Barna kánya, nesting and Barna rétihéja. Among the other birds you can encounter (depending on the water level) are Kis vöcsök, Gólyatöcs, Fehér gólya, Gyurgyalag, Búbos vöcsök and Nagy kócsag.
