Description
Mekszikópuszta is located in the Fertő-Hanság National Park in North-West Hungary at the south-eastern edge of Lake Neusiedl (HU: Fertő tó). Though relatively small, it comprises a variety of landscapes from lake shore and reed belts to the typical Hungarian puszta (Pannonian steppes). The birds you can encounter here include several species of geese and ducks e.g., Nyári lúd, Böjti réce, Kanalas réce, üstökösréce, Cigányréce; waders such as Pajzsoscankó, Gólyatöcs, Gulipán, Szürke cankó, Piroslábú cankó, Füstös cankó, Kis lile, Nagy póling, Nagy goda; reed warblers; herons; raptors including Barna rétihéja, Rétisas, Kabasólyom, Vándorsólyom; Gyurgyalag, Búbos banka, Tövisszúró gébics and sárga billegető are regularly seen in spring and summer and occasionally rozsdás csuk and cigánycsuk can be spotted. kőforgató, Sarki partfutó and Fenyérfutó are among rarities that can be encountered in autumn.

Access
It takes about 2,5 hours by car from Budapest but it is merely a 40 min drive from the birdingplaces in neighbouring Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park in Austria.

The southern part of the route follows a path along a small channel and contains 2 small lookout platforms. Another platform is located next to the 8521 road. Unfortunately there is no footpath along the road but usually there is not much traffic so it is safe to walk or ride a bike.
