Description
The area of Windknollen - close to the city of Jena - is a small mountain with a mosaic landscape containing mostly semi-dry short grass vegetation, temporarily water-filled depressions, bushes, mixed deciduous forest and isles of pine trees. Once a military training area it is now a little nature reserve (185 ha). Typical birds here are Mezei pacsirta, Erdei pacsirta, Sordély, Tövisszúró gébics and cigánycsuk. You can also easily find Citromsármány, hamvas küllő , Fenyvescinege, vörös vércse Egerészölyv and Vörös kánya.

You can access Windknollen only on foot from different directions, for example from the village of Closewitz or through Steingrund.
