Description

Viernheimer Heide is a heathland area with adjacent coniferous and mixed forests. It is particularly characterized by dry grassland and sandy areas in which many rare bird species can be observed, especially in spring and summer. Breeding birds include, for example, Erdei pityer, Kormos légykapó, Erdei pacsirta, Kerti rozsdafarkú, Sárgarigó, Tövisszúró gébics, Kakukk, Nyaktekercs, Darázsölyv, Lappantyú and Búbos banka. Various species such as rozsdás csuk and Hantmadár can be seen in the area during migration.

Access

The Viernheimer Heide is located between the villages of Viernheim and Lampertheim. The best way to get around the area is on foot or by bike. Cars are best parked in Viernheim. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot. The indicated route on the map is about 6 km one way.
