Unteruckersee is a large lake located south of the town Prenzlau. It is part of the European Special Protection Area. A visit is worthwhile at any time of year.
Unteruckersee is about 7 km long and 2 km wide. Wide reed belts line the shore and provide breeding grounds for ducks, grebes, rails, bitterns and warblers. In winter, large groups of northern geese, Énekes hattyú and Kis hattyú, Nagy bukó and ducks rest here. With luck divers and scoters can be seen here in winter time.
At various points you have direct access to the lake or can look over the lake and the reed beds from an elevated position at some distance from the banks. A good starting point is the promenade in Prenzlau from where you can look across the water to check for Vörösnyakú vöcsök and Búbos vöcsök. Don't miss the small Polder Magnushof.
