Description
Stausee Rötha offers a variety of waterfowl, waders and other birds, including Küszvágó csér , Dankasirály , Búbos vöcsök , Kárókatona , Kerceréce , Bütykös ásólúd , Nagy kócsag , Jégmadár , Kerti geze , Molnárfecske , Füsti fecske , Sarlósfecske , Kakukk and many more. Even fehérszárnyú szerkő has been reported here.
Interestingly, this lake currently (2024) suffers from an algal bloom. However, these algae "carpets" have the effect that various songbirds walk on them to pick up small insects, making it easy to observe them.

Access
Stausee Rötha is located 15 km south of Leipzig, directly south of the town of Rötha. There's a parking lot located at the eastern side of the lake. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can also come by bike or take a bus to the bus stop "Rötha, Markt" and walk down in a southerly direction. A circular walk around the lake is about 4 km.
