Description

During spring and summer, common species that can be found at Saalbachniederung Bruchsal are Sordély, Kis lile, Bíbic, Kis vöcsök, Sárszalonka, rozsdás csuk, Kormos légykapó and Nádirigó. Sometimes a Vörös gém can be seen, törpegém breed since 2021, but often hard to see. In fall, migration is quite good for waders (August to mid October). Common waders like Pajzsoscankó, Havasi partfutó, Réti cankó, Erdei cankó, billegetőcankó, Piroslábú cankó, Szürke cankó, Füstös cankó and Sárszalonka in small numbers every year, but also often good for rare waders like Sarlós partfutó, Ezüstlile, Nagy póling, Temminck-partfutó, Apró partfutóand Nagy goda (often all of these waders every year present but only single individuals). Gólyatöcs in 2018 and 2019 with single individuals present. Later in fall (September and October) high numbers of Fehér gólya, some Fekete gólya and Daru. Good numbers of Havasi pityer(up to 30 individuals), some rozsdás csuk, cigánycsuk, different species of ducks and single Halászsas. In reed some Guvat and sometimes Pettyes vízicsibe, but difficult to see. In winter single individuals of Nagy őrgébics and Kékes rétihéja.

Access

The Saalbachniederung is located northwest of the town of Bruchsal. Best way by car or train (Bruchsal train station). From Bruchsal, take the B35 towards Karlsdorf. Cross the A5 highway and turn left at the next traffic light onto Neuwiesenstraße. Turn left again (not at the gas station) into Im Ochsenstall (industrial area). Follow Lußhardtstraße, cross the B35 bridge, and park near the Kieswerk Neureut. Press P on the map for directions.
