More than 110 hectares of forest areas, wet meadows, shallow water ponds and lakes with muddy shore zones. With big bird hides from where to overlook the area.
The NSG Rhäden Obersuhl/Dankmarshausen nature reserve covers 112.5 hectares and includes forest areas, meadows, wet meadows, shallow water ponds and lakes with muddy shore zones. A floodplain landscape of supra-regional importance. If you leave your car on the edge of the nature reserve, you can enjoy the area on foot on a nice circular walk of 6 km and pass good viewpoints and bird hides. Among the nice birds you can see here are Fekete gólya, Daru, Böjti réce, Sárszalonka, Pajzsoscankó, Vörös kánya, Barna kánya and Berki tücsökmadár.
The nature reserve is located on the Hessian border between the villages of Bosserode and Obersuhl west of Bad Hersfeld on the A 4 (exit Wildeck-Obersuhl). You reach the bird hide by turning left at the exit of Obersuhl (direction Bosserode-L 3251) into the first asphalted dirt road and driving on it west along the edge of the forest to a parking lot, which is somewhat hidden on a forest clearing (approx. 1.5 km from the road junction). From there, a sign points to the bird hide. But you can also park on the south side of the area (see the P on the map).
