Even though the Mindel lake (and its surrounding reed belts and forested slopes) is a relatively small birding area, the number of species is remarkably high.

Description

The small lake Mindelsee and its diversely structured shores host the highest number of breeding species in the whole region of Lake Constance (Bodensee).

The Cigányréce can be observed in autumn. A colony of Küszvágó csér nests on rafts in the lake. Also Guvat, Barna kánya, üstökösréce, Fekete harkály, hamvas küllő, Zöld küllo, közép fakopáncs, Erdei pityer, Nádi tücsökmadár, cserregő nádiposzáta, Fülemüle and Sárgarigó can be observed in breeding period. In winter Bölömbika and Nagy bukó may be of interest.

Access

Access by public transport: There is a bus from Radolfzell station to Möggingen. Markelfingen also has a train station.

Access by car: The most convenient parking lot is on the road between Radolfzell and Möggingen: "Parkplatz Mindelsee". Click on the P in the map to get directions. The circular trail around the lake that is shown on the map is about 9 km.
