Description
The Kemnader See is located on the southern outskirts of the city of Bochum and borders on Witten and Hattingen. The shore of the reservoir is developed with paved paths and a cycle path. The lake is traversed by the river Ruhr, in the estuary area of the river, gravel islands are formed, where mainly gulls (up to 6 species!) can be observed in winter. The lake is also a roosting place for Kanadai lúd and Nyári lúd in winter. In winter: regular Kerceréce, Kis bukó, Nagy bukó, Barátréce, Kontyos réce, Csörgo réce, Kendermagos réce and Tőkés réce. Füstös réce, Sarki búvár, Északi búvár are occasional winter visitors, and Jeges búvár have also been observed. Jégmadár can be seen regularly all year round, partifecske in summer. Küszvágó csér and kormos szerkő are migrants, as is Halászsas. The black swans, which have been breeding here regularly for many years, are famous.

Accessible by car via the A43 motorway, exit Witten-Herbede. Parking spaces at the "Freiteitbad Heveney". Click on the P in the map for directions. Bus stops "Freizeitbad Heveney" and in the south "Herbede Mitte" and "Wittener Straße".
