Description
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Tőkés réce, Kendermagos réce, Kontyos réce, Barátréce, Szárcsa and Kárókatona.
Smaller groups of Csörgo réce and Búbos vöcsök can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Nílusi lúd and Bütykös hattyú are often present, as well as Nagy kócsag, Szürke gém, Jégmadár and hegyi billegető along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Nagy bukó, Fütyülő réce, Nyílfarkú réce, Böjti réce (on spring migration) or even a stunning Kis bukó here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Csíz, Meggyvágó, Süvöltő, Erdei szürkebegy, tüzesfejű királyka, szőlőrigó and Fekete harkály.
