Description
The wet meadows of Elzwiesen are irrigated in March, August and November. End of March/ start of April and August are the best times to watch migrating birds on the flooded meadows. Common migrating spiecies are Réti cankó , Pajzsoscankó , Szürke cankó , Dankasirály and Böjti réce. Also rarer species like Kanalasgém , Kis póling and Nagy goda can sometimes be found on the irrigated areas.
Breeding birds are Nagy póling , Bíbic , Fülemüle and Tövisszúró gébics. Many Nagy kócsag , Szürke gém and Fehér gólya can be observed feeding in the area. The meadows are irrigated in steps from south to north. So most times only one part of the area is flooded. Note that the area has limited access from March to June.
