Description
During the winter months, many migratory duck and geese species rest at Altwarmbüchener See, such as Nyári lúd, Kanadai lúd, Nílusi lúd, Tőkés réce, Kontyos réce, Csörgo réce, Kendermagos réce, Fütyülő réce, Kerceréce, Barátréce, Nagy bukó and Tundrai vetési lúd. Also Bütykös hattyú, Kárókatona, Búbos vöcsök, Nagy kócsag and Szürke gém can be seen regularly. The park around the lake is home to barázdabillegető, kormosfejű cinege, Barátcinege, Csilpcsalpfüzike, Süvöltő, fekete rigó and many more.
During the summer months there is a lot of bathing activity and observation opportunities are limited.

Access
Altwarmbüchener See is located northeast of the city of Hannover. The lake is easily accessible by public transport (tram line 3). The tram stops (1) are 500–900 m from the lake. There are also numerous parking spaces available. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking lot. A circular path (3,5 km) leads around the lake. In summer, there is a kiosk, boat rentals, and public restrooms.
