One of the most important bird migration areas in Hesse. Large numbers of raptors can be observed as well as big groups of migrating songbirds.

Description

The Altes Feld (Old Field) near Dainrode was the largest Hessian resting place for Bíbic in the 1970s with daily maximums (resting population) of around 14,000. Up to 600 Aranylile. Rare Havasi lile. Large numbers of raptors, sometimes over 50 Vörös kánya and 100 Egerészölyv. The Gatyás ölyv is an occasional migrant and winter guest. In the cold winter of 86/87 up to 20 individuals. Kékes rétihéja, Barna rétihéja, Kis sólyom and Hósármány regularly. Sometimes Daru rest, often thousands of them migrating. Maximum numbers: Mezei pacsirta 10,000, fenyőrigó 10,000, szőlőrigó 6,000, Seregély 200,000, Réti pityer 2,000.

Access

Altes Feld located near the village of Dainrode. The area is crossed by the B 253 and is very easy to reach. Driving on dirt roads is forbidden, but is probably never checked.
