Description
Tbilisi Reservoir is divided in two parts. A smaller eastern part and a larger western part. In the western part you can observe different ducks (Tőkés réce, Kendermagos réce, Kis bukó), gulls (heringsirály, Halászsirály, Viharsirály, Kis sirály) and terns (Kenti csér, Küszvágó csér, fehérszárnyú szerkő). In the eastern part near the strait wintering swans (Kis hattyú, Énekes hattyú) and even loons (Sarki búvár, Északi búvár) can be encountered.
The shores of the eastern part are muddy and flat, so it is a good place for waders (Piroslábú cankó, Réti cankó, Csigaforgató, Pajzsoscankó, Sárszalonka). In the reedbeds you can find almost all species of herons, that live in Georgia (Szürke gém, Nagy kócsag, üstökösgém, törpegém).
Open spaces, covered with grass on the shores of the reservoir attract larks, shrikes, pipits and birds of prey (including Vándorsólyom, Kis sólyom, Kék vércse, Fehérkarmú vércse, Fakó rétihéja, Pusztai sas, Halászsas).
In the coastal forests live woodpeckers (Balkáni fakopáncs, Kis fakopáncs, Nyaktekercs, Fekete harkály), tits, finches (Süvöltő, Erdei pinty) and even Keresztcsoru.
