380 hectare lake, 3rd largest in the region. Urbanised east bank but wild and overgrown in the west. Extensive lily growth in summer.
The east bank of Etang de Soustons is urbanised and the west bank difficult to access on foot. Perhaps a boat is best, through info site and viewpoint available on the jetty at north end. Point de Vergnes in the town is another good spot. törpegém and varied selection of sylvia and leaf warblers in the marginal woods. Also Sárgalábú sirály, Kis kócsag, Kabasólyom, Halászsas, Fehér gólya and many more. Breeding spot for frogs, toads and newts in spring. Otter and mink.
Midway along the Bayonne-Bordeaux highway, head west through Magesq to Soustons where parking is as shown on the map.
