Description

The Nature reserve Nový rybník is an important breeding site for many reedbed birds such as Kékbegy, Guvat, Nádirigó, Foltos nádiposzáta, cserregő nádiposzáta, Barna rétihéja, Vízityúk or Nádi sármány. On the pond itself breed many pairs of Dankasirály (the only occupied place in Plzensky region), Nyári lúd, Szárcsa, Tőkés réce and a few pairs of Kendermagos réce, Barátréce and Kontyos réce. In the rural areas and meadows breed Tövisszúró gébics, Réti tücsökmadár, Énekes nádiposzáta, Mezei poszáta, Fülemüle, Mezei pacsirta and many others.

During the spring migration you can see birds such as rozsdás csuk, cigánycsuk, Böjti réce, kormos szerkő and many other species of waterfowl. In last years Daru is a regular guest here, especially in spring time. In late summer and autumn there is little water, which is suitable for Sárszalonka, Bíbic, Réti cankó and other waders. In winter Nagy őrgébics is a regular visitor.

Many birds come to spend a night in the reedbed, especially in the end of summer. It is the best place in the area where to watch Seregély murmuration (thousands of birds). You can also see Füsti fecske and sárga billegető.
