Description
The Grote Wal is located in a bend of the river Scheldt near the town of Baasrode. It is set up as a controlled flood area. A creek with mud flats and salt marshes runs into the area and is surrounded by wet grasslands. Böjti réce, Szürke cankó, Csigaforgató, Kis lile, Foltos nádiposzáta, Kis kócsag and countless ducks, geese, waders and other birds can be seen in the area.

Nederlands: De Grote Wal ligt in een bocht van de rivier de Schelde bij Baasrode. Het is ingericht als een gecontroleerd overstromingsgebied. Een kreek met slikken en schorren loopt het gebied in en wordt omgeven door natte graslanden. Böjti réce, Szürke cankó, Csigaforgató, Kis lile, Foltos nádiposzáta, Kis kócsag en talloze eenden, ganzen, steltlopers en andere vogels kun je in het gebied zien.

Access
The Grote Wal is located east of Baasrode and south of Kastel. From Baasrode you can reach the area with the ferry service Baasrode-Moerzeke. De Grote Wal is also accessible from the towns of Hamme, Moerzeke and Kastel. Click on a P in the map for directions. There is a cycle path of about 4 km around the area. From this path you can view the area by bike or on foot.

Nederlands: De Grote Wal ligt ten oosten van Baasrode en ten zuiden van Kastel. Vanuit Baasrode kun je het gebied bereiken met de veerdienst Baasrode-Moerzeke. De Grote Wal is ook bereikbaar vanuit de plaatsen Hamme, Moerzeke en Kastel. Klik op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving. Er loopt een fietspad van ongeveer 4 km rondom het gebied. Vanaf dit pad kun je het gebied fietsend of wandelend overzien.
