The Dragositschacher Bucht lies next to the Drau river, and consists of beautiful ponds and reedbeds. A great spot for observing Függőcinege.
The Dragositschacher Bucht is a beautiful area next to the Drau river, consisting of a wide variety of habitats. The main area consists of several ponds and reedbeds. On the southern edge, the area is bordered by a small forested area, and on the northern side, the Drau river is located. The area is great for observing waterbirds, which winter here in large numbers. Species like Barátréce, Kontyos réce, Szárcsa and Bütykös hattyú can be seen in large numbers. Rarer species, like Kis bukó, Nagy bukó and Kerceréce, can mainly be observed in winter here. On several spots, groups of Sárgalábú sirály, Kárókatona and Dankasirály rest on the shorelines.
During the breeding season, the reedbeds are great for many species of songbird, like Nádi sármány, Énekes nádiposzáta, cserregő nádiposzáta and Nádirigó. Also larger species, like Guvat and Kis vöcsök, breed here. The open shorelines with pebbles are great for Kis lile.
Just after the breeding season, large flocks of Függőcinege tend to be seen here. They forage in the lower levels of the reedbeds, and sometimes popup to give a show.
The area is easy accessible from two sides: on the western side you can observe the area from a path, and a birding hide is present. On the eastern side, the area is accessible by walking around on sanded paths. At the parking spot, you need to enter an extraction area which doesn't look accessible, but eventually you'll find a path that leads you to the main reedbed area. Just follow the path on the map.
