Description

A large area of woodland managed by the Forestry Commission, whilst the woodland is mostly coniferous, there are areas of deciduous trees for added interest.

(*1) (press STAR on map), the woodland North of the car park is called Park Wood, this ever changing part of woodland has some clear-felled areas with scrubland making it good for Slavuj and Pjegavi Cvrčić, other clear areas have Prugasta Trepetljka, Brezov Zviždak, Siva Grmuša, Grmuša Pjenica, Zimovka and Žuta strnadica. At dusk Šumska šljuka and Šumska sova are a distinct possibility. Dense areas of conifers have Jelova sjenica, Vatroglavi Kraljić and Zlatoglavi Kraljić.

(*2), the long central firebreak consisting of conifers and some good areas of deciduous trees, can have Grlica, Muharica and Kukavica during Summer. Later in the year the ever secretive Šumska šljuka can also be found here. More mature conifer areas have Vatroglavi Kraljić, Zlatoglavi Kraljić, Jelova sjenica and Čižak, listen out for the calls of Krstokljun high-up in the canopy.

(*3), farmland and hedgerows on the Eastern side of the woodland (there is a short out and back footpath), can have Grmuša Pjenica, Grmuša čevrljinka, Brezov Zviždak, with Čiopa and Lastavica feeding over fields in Summer. Žuta strnadica, Juričica , Češljugar and Zimovka can be found here, check field edges for Crvenonoga jarebica and Sivi Ćuk.

(*4), this Hedgecock Wood section of both woodland and open fields has Šumska sova, Zelena žuna, Veliki Djetlić, Golub Dupljaš, Drozd Imelaš, Kratkokljuni puzavac, Šojka, Crnoglava sjenica, Dugorepa Sjenica. During Spring/Summer expect Slavuj, Kukavica and Grlica.
