Migrating birds are attracted to this nature reserve on the southern tip of Suffolk's coastline. There is a Bird Observatory and trails to explore the area.
Landguard Nature Reserve is covering approximately 33 hectares (81 acres) on the southern tip of Suffolk's coastline. You can see migrating birds together with huge ships arriving and departing at Britain's busiest container port Harwich. The Nature Reserve is a designated Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its high wildlife conservation value. Take a stroll on the boardwalk around the 'point' with views of the estuary mouth to spot rare and resident birdlife or visit the Bird observatory. Among the birds that are seen here often are Grivasta guska, Sivkasta Bjeloguza, Mrka Crvenrepka, Juričica, Kulik Blatarić, Oštrigar and Crvenonoga jarebica.
You can park at the entrance of the nature reserve (see the P on the map). The Bird Observatory welcomes visitors. Visits and tours are by appointment only - and provided there is a member on site to give access and supervise your visit. Please telephone well in advance on 01394 673782 or email landguardbo@yahoo.co.uk. Mornings are the best time to visit.
