Description

Alaçatı Wetland is a lagoon-like intertidal estuary covering approximately 250 acres, which is formed by a natural watercourse flowing north-south from the Kutlu Aktaş Dam to the Aegean Sea. The area abounds in halophiles marshes, dunes and shallow water channels, and a great variety of maquis or scrubland vegetation. The wetland provides feeding, shelter and breeding grounds for many bird species. Plamenac is seen throughout the year. In addition, bird species such as Zlatokrila utva, Krivokljuna Prutka, Crvenonoga Prutka, Morski Kulik, Žalar Cirikavac, Pršljivac, Mali Žalar, Galeb klaukavac, Bjelobrada Čigra, Pčelarica, Daurska Lastavica, Istočna strnadica, Vlastelica, Šivalica and Crna Roda are some of the other species seen in the area. Also check the birdlist below.
