The rice fields near the village of Vegas Altas attract many birds.
Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Ždral and several species of waders like Crnorepa Muljača, Kulik Blatarić, Vlastelica, Troprsti Zlatar, Mali Žalar, Krivokljuna Prutka, Pršljivac, Žalar Cirikavac, Mala Prutka, Crnokrila Prutka, Šljuka Kokošica and Prutka Migavica. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as Modrovoljka, Planinska trepteljka or Močvarna Strnadica. Other birds you can spot in the area are Iberian Grey Shrike, Red Avadavat, Common Waxbill and Pupavac. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like Eja Močvarica, Eja Strnjarica, Crvena lunja, Bijela lunja, Mali Sokol and Sova močvarica. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
