Description

This natural area covers the mouth of the Guadiaro river, the wetland (that is an old island) and the beach. Despite its small size, its characteristics, closer to the Mediterranean Sea than to the Atlantic Ocean, make it an area of high bird's richness, with almost 230 species recorded. The bird species are typical of places of brackish water with little influence of tide and reedbeds: ducks, herons, rails and crakes, waders, seabirds, gulls, terns and waterbird passerines.

Among these species you will find: residents Morski Kulik, Europska velika sultanka, Vodomar or Svilorepa; migrants Žuta Čaplja, Čaplja Danguba, Riđa Štijoka, Vlastelica, Južni galeb, Mala Čigra, Daurska Lastavica or Veliki Trstenjak; wintering Bukoč, Kokošica, Sjenica Mošnjarka or Močvarna Strnadica. You have breeding, among other, like Čapljica Voljak and Trstenjak cvrkutić. Some possible rarities are Mramorna patka, Mala Šljuka or Mala Štijoka. The beach is a good place for seabirds, both in winter and on migration, like Veliki zovoj, Balearska gregula or Crna patka.
