Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Sup starješina nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Crna lunja, Zmijar and Patuljasti orao.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Crna Roda. On- and around the river Siva Čaplja, Mala Bijela Čaplja and Veliki Vranac are present most of the time, as well as Čaplja Danguba sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Crvenonoga jarebica, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
