Description

The Grootrivier has enough water to support an olive plantation. The adjacent mountain slopes of Mount Cedar, on the other hand, are only covered with low, drought-tolerant bushes. The area is very sparsely populated and has few tourists, so some birds are not afraid of people. There is almost no car traffic.

In the grassy areas along the tree-lined river bank, the Helmeted Guineafowl and the Hadada Ibis can be found. West of the olive groves above the dry stream, other, mostly smaller birds can be observed in the trees and bushes.

Access

The remote Mount Cedar area can practically only be reached by car. Press P on the map for directions or coordinates. Due to the low population density and the road conditions (gravel roads), I think it makes sense to stay in a lodge here. In the area of the main building along the Grootrivier there are trees and grassy areas. To the west of the olive groves there is a dry stream bed bordered by dry mountain slopes with sparse vegetation.
