Belo Jezero is a medium-sized lake turned into a fishing farm located inside the broader area of the Carska Bara nature reserve.
The proximity of Carska Bara ('Royal Wetland') and Bara Tiganjica ('Pan-shaped Pond') native wetlands, in combination with a lot of food sources from the other Ečka fish farm lakes and ponds scattered around the Belo Jezero ('White Lake') attracts numerous bird species, especially during migration.
More than 180 bird species were recorded at Belo Jezero fishing farm, including Žličarka, Bukoč (on migration), Brkata Sjenica, Modrovoljka, Vlastelica, Modronoga Sabljarka, Veliki Pozviždač (winter), Crnorepa Muljača, Žalar Cirikavac and many other shorebirds. Some 400-500 Crvenokljuni Labud are regular at the lake, while the breeding colony of Siva Čaplja is located at the edge of the nearby pond Traktor Bara ('Tractor Pond').
Belo Jezero is a fantastic place to look for local rarities during migration: Prugasti Pozviždač, Dugonoga prutka, Krivokljuni Žalar, Mali Žalar, and Mali Galeb are quite possible, while Bijeli Žalar, Kameničak, Riđa muljača, Zlatar Pijukavac, Troprsti Zlatar, American Golden Plover, Morski Kulik, Tankokljuna liskonoga, Crnoglavi Galeb, Velika čigra, Debelokljuna Čigra, and Mali ronac (winter) are also recorded.
This 5,40 km² area lake with an average depth of only 1.33 m was turned into a fishing farm way back in 1762.
The area is accessible via the regional road Belgrade - Zrenjanin from which the local road to Belo Blato ('White Mud') detours. After 1.2 km turn right to the local road for Lukino Selo ('Luka's Village'). Immediately after the turn, there is a small parking place, convenient to access the broader area, including Traktor Bara and numerous smaller fishing farms between Belo Jezero and Begej river.
There is a pasture between the lake and the local road to Lukino Selo, where it is also possible to park. From there, it is possible to walk along the lake shore, as well as to walk down to the grassy beach and take a closer look at all those various shorebirds.
South of the lake, there is Motel Sibila (which is currently not operational) with a spacious parking place, from where Traktor Bara pond and Bara Tiganjica reed are just across the local road.
Prefer visits during working days, or early mornings at weekends, as local surfers invade the lake at weekends around 10 AM.
