Description

Leaving from Marsden Cove Marina, the pelagic offers a chance to explore the north-western part of the Hauraki Gulf. Although not that far from the other main pelagic port of Sandspit, this area offers better chances for Pycroft's Petrel and Little Shearwater (Hauraki). Most of the Northern breeding New Zealand seabirds can be found here, and with a stunning coastline, the very scenic Hen and Chicken Islands, and a chance of marine mammals, this location is well worth visiting during Spring, Summer, and Autumn. During Pelagics between January and March, when the weather is favourable, there is a chance to visit the Mokohinau Islands for a chance of Grey Ternlet.

Other regular species seen between late October and March are Cook's Petrel, Fairy Prion, Parkinson's Petrel, Buller's Shearwater, Flesh-footed Shearwater, Fluttering Shearwater, White-faced Storm Petrel, and very good chances of the rediscovered New Zealand Storm-Petrel.
