This bird hide at lake Westerplas on the Wadden Sea Island of Schiermonnikoog has great views of the Veliki Vranac and Žličarka colony.
The bird hide at the Westerplas is a good place to observe birds. Anything can show up here during migration and you have a nice view on a Veliki Vranac and Žličarka breeding colony. Almost all Dutch duck species are found here, along with, Žličarka, Ćubasti Gnjurac, Liska and many gulls. Various types of shy reed birds house in the broad reed collars, of which the mysterious Bukavac is perhaps the most special. But also many songbirds such as Sjeverna juričica, Modrovoljka and Močvarna Strnadica can be found here.

The Westerplas is located directly southwest of the village of Schiermonnikoog. The best way to get there is by bike. The cycle path runs right past the bird hide. But from the village you can also walk to the bird watching hut (about 1.5 km). There is a parking space for bicycles (see the P on the map). From there it is about a 50 meter walk to the bird hide.
