Description
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly Eja Močvarica but also Stepska Eja (early-mid spring) and Eja Livadarka (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for Bjelonokta Vjetruša and Crvenonoga Vjetruša (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, Pčelarica and Zlatovrana. Kratkoprsta ševa arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including Daurska Lastavica, and pipits, including Rusogrla trepteljka. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see Troprsti Zlatar and Vivak. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
