Description

Msambweni beach is one of the quieter beaches on the south Kenyan coast and this makes it a pleasant place to view the birds that inhabit this area.

On the shoreline and in the lagoon you will be able to spot birds such as the Goliath Heron, Black-headed Heron, Great Egret, Woolly-necked Stork, White-fronted Plover and Black-winged Stilt.

And in the coastal forest and mangroves bordering the shore line you might be lucky enough to see birds like the Water Thick-knee, Mangrove Kingfisher, African Fish-eagle, Uluguru Violet-backed Sunbird, White-throated Bee-eater, Lilac-breasted Roller and the magnificent Silvery-cheeked Hornbill.

It is best to explore the shoreline at low tide because that is the best time to see the waterbirds in the lagoon. in addition, the couple of hours after dawn are also the best time to do this because the birds are very active and it is cooler.
