Protected wetland of 116 hectares that rises along the shores of the second inlet of the Mar Piccolo of Taranto.
Palude La Vela Regional is a protected natural area located in Taranto. The wetland is the ideal habitat for many water birds, waders and migratory birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Plamenac, Vlastelica, Modronoga Sabljarka, Žličarka, Vodomar, Bukoč, Utva and Veliki Pozviždač.

Italiano: La riserva è un’area protetta di 116 ettari che sorge lungo le sponde del secondo seno del Mar Piccolo di Taranto. L’area del Mar Piccolo dove sorge la Riserva Palude La Vela inoltre, si caratterizza per la presenza di un substrato impermeabile che ha consentito la formazione di una zona paludosa di transizione tra acque dolci e salate, ovvero l’habitat ideale di molte specie avifaunistiche di interesse comunitario, sia stanziali che migratorie come aironi, garzette, spatole, tuffetti, piro-piro, chiurli, volpoche, fenicotteri, avocette, falchi pescatori, nonché il cavaliere d’Italia che nidifica in palude.
Palude La Vela is located 5 km east of the city of Taranto. Interesting but not very easily accessible area. The road that runs along it is busy and has few parking options and places to overview the area.
