Description
The Vergias river, also known as the Chalandra river, leads from the sea all the way towards the dam at Pithariou reservoir. Like many other rivers facing southwest on the island, migrants tend to follow the riverbed further inland. Along the route, you can scan (scattered) bushes and trees for migrants, like flycatchers and warblers. Scan wires and fences for chats and shrikes, like Sivi Svračak and Crnoglavi Batić. Overhead, lots of migrants, like herons, storks, swifts, Pčelarica and raptors can be seen, flying inland.
On the beach and the adjacent fields, migrants can be seen resting when they finally arrived on the island; especially early in the morning. Species like Prepelica and Ćukavica have been seen here too.
Just near the beach, a bridge crosses the river from which you can observe the river for herons and waders, like Čapljica Voljak, Crnokrila Prutka, Sijedi Žalar, Mali Žalar, Žuta Čaplja and Zlatokrila utva. In the surrounding bushes, species like Svilorepa and Španjolski Vrabac can be found.
Over sea, flocks of Mala gregula can be seen, and sometimes Kaukal are mixed with these flocks.
