Athens' most important birdwatching area, with a great variety of habitats, worth visiting all year long.
A combination of wetland, agricultural fields, pine forest, sandy beach and rocky hills is host to many different bird species. More than 200 of them have been reported here. Any time of the year is worth visiting, but spring and autumn can be very productive. A visit can be combined with historic Marathon Tomb, Marathon Museum and Museum of Marathon Race.
KTEL from Athens center, a few times a day, more in summer. But better accessed by car. Click on the P in the map for directions.
Be very careful climbing up the observation towers. They provide absolutely no protection, so extreme care should be taken. However, view from there is spectacular.
