Description
A track which runs Southwest from a picnic area with the Lake on your right hand side (this section maybe dry depending upon the time of year you visit) and can be exited further down the track at Limochori, Chryssohorafa or Lithotopos. One of the most productive stretches for birds and during migration plays host to an astonishing number of species. Žuta Čaplja, Gak, Modronoga Sabljarka, Vlastelica, Crna Prutka, Pršljivac, Dugonoga prutka, Sijedi Žalar, Mali Žalar, Šljuka Livadarka, Plosnatokljuni Žalar, Terek Sandpiper, Oštrugasti vivak and Riđokrila Pješčarka to mention a few.

Around 100km North of Thessaloniki, head towards Serres, then Lake Kerkini and Lithotopos, follow the road towards Iraklia then onto Megalochori where you follow the local sign's for the Lake. GPS 41.232, 23.188

The area at the start of the Eastern Embankment track, the Meglachori triangle is worth stopping and checking out on foot, here we had Siva Štijoka, Crnoprugasti Trstenjak, Orao klokotaš, Orao Kliktaš, Žličarka, Elenorin sokol, Zelena žuna, Siva žuna, Mali Vranac, Muharica, Mrka Crvenrepka and many more birds. For a circular route drive from the picnic area Southwest with the lake on the right hand side birdwatching from the car until you come to the first fork on the road approx 6Km down the track, take the left hand fork through Limochori which takes you back onto the main road Iraklia to Meglachori.
