The Hallerey nature reserve is located in the west of Dortmund and is one of the oldest nature reserves in Dortmund.
The heart of NSG Hallerey is the 33 hectare lake whose shoreline is occupied by extensive woodland belts. To the east and west of the shallow lake, the nature reserve mainly comprises grassland often alternating with small-scale structurally rich bushes and deciduous forest stands.
In NSG Hallerey you can observe many waterbirds but also forest birds. Siva Guska, Patka Žličarka, Glavata Patka, Mali Gnjurac, Velika Bijela Čaplja, Mala Prutka, Riječni Galeb, Vodomar, Crnokapa Grmuša, Zimovka and Jastreb can be found there. It is worth watching in winter when there are no leaves on the trees. In summer you tend to have poor visibility.
The Hallerey nature reserve is located in the west of Dortmund. You can park on Höfkerstrasse and from there explore the area by bike or on foot. Another parking lot is at the Revierpark next to the nature reserve. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 3 km.
