Exposed mountain surrounded by wine-growing areas with numerous hedges and adjacent forest. Interesting birds and rewarding views of the Franconian landscape.
The wine-growing area around the Tannenberg near Hüttenheim is ideal, especially during the breeding season, for observing some breeding birds that have become rare, even in Franconia. Due to the still partly small-scale cultural landscape with sun-exposed slopes, numerous hedges and extensive forests in the vicinity of the foothills of the Steigerwald, species such as Vrtna strnadica, Vuga and Grlica can still be found here. But species like Žuta strnadica and Poljska Ševa are also more common here. Furthermore, when the weather conditions are right, birds of prey such as Škanjac, Crvena lunja, Vjetruša and Eja Livadarka can also be discovered here.
The area can be easily accessed via the hiking car park south of Hüttenheim. Click on the P on the map for directions. The area can be explored using the signposted circular trails. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 4 km.
