A fishing lake (and former gravel pit) that is great for winterbirds. Easily accessible with good views across the lake and along the shores.
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Divlja Patka, Patka Kreketaljka, Krunata Patka, Glavata Patka, Liska and Veliki Vranac.
Smaller groups of Kržulja and Ćubasti Gnjurac can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Egipatska guska and Crvenokljuni Labud are often present, as well as Velika Bijela Čaplja, Siva Čaplja, Vodomar and Gorska Pastirica along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Veliki ronac, Zviždara, Patka Lastarka, Patka Pupčanica (on spring migration) or even a stunning Bijeli ronac here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Čižak, Batokljun, Zimovka, Sivi Popić, Vatroglavi Kraljić, Mali Drozd and Crna žuna.
The lake is best accessed by car. You can park near the SV Sulzbach sports ground, which is about 200m from the lakeside path.
Note: Access to the western shore (protected area) and parts of the southern shore (fishing club) is prohibited!
