Description
Gedenkstätte Stresow is a little memorial of World War II located in the Wendland in midst of a lot of nature. Right next to the memorial is a small lake, where you can often see Bijeli ronac, Veliki ronac and several species of duck in Winter.
A few hundred meters futher there is an observation tower with a nice view over the partially flooded meadows and small bodies of water. In winter they are getting used as a wintering and migration place for thousands of ducks and geese such as Patka Lastarka, Patka Batoglavica, Zviždara, Patka Kreketaljka, Kržulja, Patka Pupčanica, Patka Žličarka, Glavata Patka, Krunata Patka, Utva, Sjevernomorska guska, Lisasta Guska, Guska Glogovnjača and Žutokljuni Labud. If you are lucky than you can spot a Veliki svračak in the bushes.
During migration times many waders visit the area. You can observe Vivak, Žalar Cirikavac, Kulik Blatarić, Kulik Sljepčić, Veliki Pozviždač, Crnorepa Muljača, Mala Prutka, Šljuka Kokošica, Prutka Migavica, Crnokrila Prutka, Crna Prutka, Crvenonoga Prutka, Krivokljuna Prutka and sometimes Pršljivac. On the water bodies you can sometimes spot grebes such as Riđogrli Gnjurac or Mali Gnjurac or see a Vodomar.
For a better look there is a route on the dike through the meadows so you can see the whole area from different sides. In the summer there are many swallows and Ždral , herons and Bijela roda. Siva Čaplja and Velika Bijela Čaplja are not uncommon, with a bit of luck you even can see a pair of Crna Roda.
From the power poles, the bushes and out of the reed you can hear the songs of Močvarna Strnadica, Velika Strnadica, Žuta strnadica, Grmuša Pjenica, Trstenjak Rogožar, Trstenjak cvrkutić, Veliki Trstenjak, Smeđoglavi Batić, Crnoglavi Batić, Poljska Ševa and see for example Rusi Svračak or Žuta Pastirica.
Over the whole year you can spot many different birds of prey. From the observation tower you can see Eja Močvarica flying over the reed beds, in the whole area Škanjac, Crvena lunja and Vjetruša are not uncommon. On very good days you can even see a Sivi Sokol or Škanjac osaš. Also often seen are Crna lunja, Eja Strnjarica and Bukoč and sometimes more down by the river Aland in the trees sit one or two Štekavac.

Access
Feuchtwiesen Gedenkstätte Stresow is located east of the villages of Kapern and Gummern and north of the village of Aulosen. There are two roads to the memorial Stresow. One is a dirt road from Kapern, safer is the normal road from Aulosen. On the memorial is a parking space, where you can park your car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there it is better to walk or to ride a bike. You can also easily connect the visit with a bike tour through the beautiful landscape of Wendland.
