A low-lying island in the North Sea, located next to Helgoland, with a good chance of beach and sea birds. Also a good chance of seeing seals.
The island is untouched despite the day tourists who come here or summer guests who have a bungalow here. It consists entirely of dunes and is covered with shrubs in the center. The island is ideal for winter visitors and migratory birds. Be sure to stop at the 2 pools in the center of the island. There you have a good chance to see nice species up close like Muharica, Bijela pastirica ssp yarrellii, Grey-headed Wagtail (thunbergi), Kokošica en Trstenjak Mlakar.
You can only reach this island by ferry from the main island, Helgoland (departure point: Landungsbrücke), or with Inselflieger (FLN) from Harle. You can only explore the area on foot. Bicycle rental is not possible here. Dogs and small animals are not allowed here! There is 1 restaurant and 1 mini-supermarket on the island. No possibility to buy souvenirs or any natural history books about this island or Helgoland. Be vigilant and keep 30 meters away from the seals. You will be checked to see if you follow the rules. Especially during the seal season.
The bird list only shows the species that have been observed from January 2022 up to and including the present (20/06/2023).
