The Bingenheimer Ried is embedded in the Wetterau floodplain network, which is the largest landscape protection area (LSG) in Hessen.
The Bingenheimer Ried is an important marsh and wetland area and an important migration and resting area for migratory birds and winter guests. It is also home to rare breeding birds such as Vivak, Šljuka Kokošica and Patka Lastarka. The area is also a particularly suitable habitat for Modrovoljka, Močvarna Strnadica, Trstenjak Rogožar and Veliki Trstenjak and other animals such as amphibians or dragonflies. See the extendend birdlist below for more interesting birds that you can see here.
Arriving by car or train. There are three observation points; the upper level of the observation tower in the east of the area is not barrier-free. But there is a viewing platform below.
To protect the common spadefoot toad and other amphibian species, an amphibian fence was set up along the road betrween "Teufel- und Pfaffensee" and "Bingenheimer Ried" to protect migrating amphibians from being run over.
