Biotop Beeden is a floodplain of 130 hectare on the river Blies. that is rich in birds. More than 140 bird species have been recorded.
The Beeder Bruch (or Biotop Beeden) is a nice birding destination near Homburg in the Saarland. The area is part of the river Blies floodplain and has alluvial forests, reeds, meadows and ponds. These different habitats attract many birds. More than 140 different breeding and resting bird species have been identified. The area has an observation tower and an observation platform that give good views over the area. Among the birds you can see are Bijela roda, Patka Pupčanica, Patka Lastarka, Bijeli ronac, Mala Šljuka, Šljuka Kokošica, Pršljivac, Mala Prutka, Kulik Sljepčić, Bukoč, Sokol Lastavičar, Grlica, Kukavica and Vuga. In addition to the various bird species, you can also observe water buffalo and Heck cattle as well as a herd of Konik horses. The Beeder Bruch is part of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve.
The area can be easily reached on foot and by bike via the Bliestal Freizeitweg (leisure path). Parking is available at Sportplatz Beeden (sports field).
