Description
Portimojärvi is one of the best bird lakes and one of the most valuable wetlands in the area. The lake is actually a regulated extension of the Tengeliöjoki River. Many birds breed in the area and Portimojärvi is also a valuable as a gathering area for waterfowl during migration as in the summer closing season. Among the breeding birds are Zviždara, Riđogrli Gnjurac, Veliki ronac, Patka Lastarka, Patka Žličarka, Arktička čigra, Riječni Galeb, Mali Galeb, Krunata Patka and Bijeli ronac. Other birds you can encounter are Žutokljuni Labud, Ušati gnjurac, Patka Batoglavica, Ždral, Mala Prutka and Prutka Migavica. But many more, see the birdlist below. Best time for a visit is from half May until the start of autumn migration.
