Low water area with big water surface surrounded by wood and meadows. Hovvig has the most varied bird fauna in Denmark.
Hovvig is a large bird sanctuary. The area is in actual fact an "unsuccessful" attempt at land reclamation which has now developed into beautiful wetlands with an abundance of birdlife and a newly established colony of Veliki Vranac. Very nice bird observation towers from where one can overview most of the area. All year round Štekavac. Spring, summer and fall ducks, waders, raptors, and songbirds.
Many waterfowl breed here: Mali Gnjurac, Ćubasti Gnjurac, Riđogrli Gnjurac, Crvenokljuni Labud, Siva Guska, Utva, Divlja Patka, Glavata Patka, Krunata Patka. Kokošica, Liska, Vivak, Šljuka Kokošica. In addition Mrki Slavuj, Trstenjak Rogožar, Trstenjak cvrkutić. Brkata Sjenica and Sjenica Mošnjarka have bred with a few pairs. There is the large Veliki Vranac colony in the trees at the northwest border of the reserve.
Furthermore many more migratory birds and raptors can be seen here. To name a few birds of prey seen in the area: Škanjac osaš, Crvena lunja, Štekavac, Eja Močvarica, Eja Strnjarica, Jastreb, Kobac, Škanjac, Škanjac gaćaš, Bukoč , Vjetruša, Mali Sokol and Sokol Lastavičar.
Easy to reach. 100 km from Copenhagen. Drive through the village Nakke and continue at Nakke Vestvej to Hovvigvej. Easy parking and walk the 250 meters to the tower. In the protected area you are not allowed to drive your car.
