This is one of the best birding locations in Silesia with the largest reed growth in the area. The pond is located in the mining landscape of Ostrava.
There have been recorded more than 250 birds species. It is a nesting site of the in Silesia rare Brkata Sjenica and there are nesting some other rare birds like Čapljica Voljak , Modrovoljka and Rujnica. It is also a popular bird stop during migration time. In Spring you can see there for example Sivkasta Bjeloguza , Veliki Cvrčić , Crnoglavi Galeb , Bukoč and sometimes even Trstenjak Ševar and Crnoprugasti Trstenjak.
During the Autumn migration you can see many species of waders like Žalar Cirikavac , Pršljivac , Mali Žalar , Krivokljuni Žalar , Crna Prutka , Prutka Migavica and some other. Also you can observe Riđa Štijoka or Kokošica.
In Winter it is an ideal place for watching Brkata Sjenica and if you are lucky you can see wintering Bukavac or Gorska juričica .
Various bird rarities were also recorded here: Tankokljuna liskonoga , Kameničak , Terek Sandpiper , Crnorepa Muljača , Rđasti Žalar , Veliki crnoglavi galeb , Dugokljuna Čigra , Arktička čigra , Daurska Lastavica , Stepska Eja , Lastorepi galeb , Trstenjak Ševar , Crnoprugasti Trstenjak and many others.
The location is inaccessible by car, so it is best to park somewhere in Ostrava and walk to the location or go by bus. I recommend a walk along the western side of the pond. You can make a circle around, but if you want to see some reed birds, it is best to wait near the reeds or go on one of the fishing bridges (but be careful, it can be dangerous).
