The Rio Grande de Tárcoles is a river of 111 kilometers long. Many birds can be observed in the estuary area. Worth is also seeing the crocodile bridge.
The mouth of the river Tárcoles is a very quiet estuary. Many birds are looking for food here. On the banks and mudflats you see many waders, herons and crocodiles. Be sure to plan a guided trip on the river (see the links to operators below), as the tour guides know the area very well. Many Scarlet Macaw can be seen flying around in pairs. The scarlet macaw is one of the largest parrots in the world. In the area I saw the following birds: Turquoise-browed Motmot, Common Black Hawk, Brown Pelican, Royal Tern, Mangrove Swallow, Scarlet Macaw, Willet and Rufous-naped Wren. The photos I made in the area are posted below.
The mouth of the river Tárcoles is located on the Pacific coast just north of the village of Tarcoles. Best way to explore the river is by a guided boat tour (About $ 35 for a 1,5 hour trip, 2025). There a several operators offering boat trips. See the links below. Click on the P in the map for directions or coordinates.
