Description
The Weitwörther Au is the core area of 350 hectare of the 1,140 hectare Natura 2000 site Salzachauen. The species-rich floodplain forest has been restored through renaturation. In the process, the Reitbach stream was lowered. Along a pleasant 4 km circular trail, panels provide information on flora and fauna and you pass a bird hide. Among the birds you can encounter are Vodomar, Velika Bijela Čaplja, Veliki Djetlić, Kukavica, Riječni Galeb, Crnoglava sjenica, Kržulja, Crnokapa Grmuša, Trstenjak cvrkutić and if you are lucky Vuga. You have a good chance for bird photography because the birds can be very near. But you must get up early in the morning to get a Vodomar or other specific birds.
