The Thalersee is a local recreation area on the outskirts of Graz. However, some bird species can also be observed there.
The Thalersee is a dammed lake. To the south is a small reed belt where Trstenjak cvrkutić or Mlakuša can be observed. Behind the reeds are species-rich wet meadows where Crnokapa Grmuša and Dugorepa Sjenica can often be seen. Around the lake is a forest with many species of songbirds. The lake area is often crowded, especially at weekends, so most birds are harder to spot during the day than in the morning.
There are plenty of parking spaces, see map. Click on a P in the map for directions. A well paved path of about 2 km leads around the lake. Since the Thalersee is only small, it is advisable to explore it on foot. There is also the possibility to go on a pedal boat on the lake.
