Description

Cooby Dam is a reservoir that is water supply for the Toowoomba Region and is a habitat with waterbirds and rich population of bush birds. The nice trail that connects the two picnic areas of Cooby Dam and Loveday Cove is great for birdwatching.

Access

Cooby Dam is located 35 km north of Toowoomba and easily accessible by car from the New England Highway. If you are travelling north from Toowoomba, turn left on Highfields Road at Highfields and follow the signs to Lake Cooby. If coming south towards Toowoomba, turn right on the Meringandan Road at Cabarlah and then right again at Kleinton School Road. Turn left on Klein Road and right following Cooby Dam Road. There is a scenic lakeside trail at Cooby Dam, stretching from the picnic area at Loveday Cove to the dam wall (4 km one way). Some sections have a formed track, while other grassy sections may be overgrown or boggy. A great spot for photographing water birds, with good picnic facilities and a large playground.
